Website Live

DeathTrapArtCar -- or should we say DeathTrapArtCar.com -- is up and running.  We got the url today and will be chiding General Motors with it ASAP.  DeathTrapArtCar.com is the place to be for updates on the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt-turned-art-gallery-on-wheels.

Watch here as we attract visual artists from San Diego County
Watch as those artists transform the 2007 Cobalt from death trap to DeathTrapArtCar
Watch as we drive to your town or event and show our colors -- and the messages painter on the car
Watch us show you how to do the same thing with your, now useless, car

And you can follow the fun at http://deathtrapartcar.com/

Thanks and be safe out there.  There are, like, a million recalled cars out there that could crash at any time.

The Car Wash

After Car Wash
Before Car Wash
The kids from Phi Theta Kappa helped with the car wash test today. The permanent marker held up well but we're going to need to spray something clear over it. We welcome your thoughts and comments on what to use. Thanks!

Indelible Marker Test

One of the artists interested in showing on the 2007 Cobalt Deathtrap Art Car Gallery is a calligrapher.  She says "nothing says #&*@ you like saying #&*@ you in calligraphy."  I hope you agree.

We're testing pens for wear before she gets all arty on the car. We want this message to last!  More soon on our cool calligrapher...

Call To Artists

Call to Artists: 2007 Cobalt Deathtrap Art Car Gallery

The car is the gallery and the art is a message to General Motors.  You art will be seen by thousands of commuters every day.  The media will surely want to cover this artistic movement.  Here are the details...

PietaHere's an idea for an art piece that might gather momentum and change how one of the Big Three automakers handles disgruntled consumers.  Or it could lead to lawsuits.  I don't know, but I think I'm looking for artists to work on a canvass that is my 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Deathtrap.

DavidYou may know that General Motors is recalling several million cars for problems that they knew about for almost ten years.  There are several accidents that have happened as a result of not recalling the cars sooner -- or in the case of my car, ever making it.  General Motors needs to be made to look as silly as I feel driving my Accident-waiting-to-happen. And I need artists to help me make a statement.

Mona LisaGeneral Motors accepts that there are 13 attributable deaths related to this faulty ignition but others put the number as high as 300. Deaths.  Preventable deaths. Meanwhile, I thought I was getting a good deal on the car because it was yellow.
No.  It was actually priced to move because it was going to be the subject of a second recall and might kill me so...

So what?  Because the car is Caution Tape Yellow -- and a real hazard -- I want local artists to have a crack at helping me spread the message that I am driving around in a ticking time bomb.  I thought of putting a sign on the door that says something like: "In case this car turns itself (and the airbags!) off, RUN!!!" but I am sure artists will have better, and more attractive ideas about messaging.

Then it's all up to the media.  I will send press releases with pictures.  The press will cover the car that is covered in art and then GM will change. So that's my idea.

What: Call for artists to create cautionary markings on my 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, which is worthless to me now and the color of caution tape.

When: As soon as possible.  I want to place your information and art on our website and submit photos to the press.  Of course the press should love to see and publish very cool images of my car all arted up for good.

How: Contact Kevin Six, frustrated 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt owner and manager of the 2007CobaltDeathtrapArtCar Gallery.  Tell me what you want to do.  You can also link me to images of your art.  Sent it all via e-mail: 2007CobaltDeathtrapArtCar@gmail.com.

Compensation: an equal share of the copious coverage (hahaha).  No, but you get to have your art seen as part of a movement.  Justice!  You get justice You also get to paint on a car...

Why: Car companies have a responsibility to not kill the public because their cars don't work.  They also need to tell us our cars don't work when they discover that our cars don't work.  Not nine years later.  Art is eternal.  Art is powerful.  Art will bring General Motors to their knees!  OK, we might get a nice letter.  But we might also end up in a museum...

I welcome your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.  Thank you.

About Us

The 2007 Cobalt Deathtrap Art Car Gallery is the brainchild of Kevin Six.  Kevin is a San Diego actor, director and some time art gallery manager who didn't get enough attention growing up in a large Irish/German Catholic family.  He has experience in not-for-profit arts education, public relations, marketing and fundraising.

Kevin is the co-founder of New Play Cafe, an organization that supports new plays, hot beverages and dessert.  He is also a theatre director, playwright, improviser and actor. Kevin learned about community activism and geurrilla theatre as a member of New Image Teen Theatre directed by KAthy Najimy in the 80s.

The rest of the collaborators on this project have yet to identify themselves but they will be artist-activists interested in social justice.  And they will have a sense of style and humor.  More soon...

The Picture Gallery

2007 Cobalt Deathtrap Art Car Gallery

Because this is an art project, you can expect to see great things from the 2007 Cobalt Deathtrap Art Car Gallery.  That means pictures, renderings, videos, interviews and anything else you can visualize So far, though, all we have is the canvass.  That is Kevin Six's 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt.  Keep your eyes peeled for more visuals as they develop.

Until then, here are the photos of that sweet ride...
